Orioles capture Little League championship title


The Reedley Little League Champs, the Orioles, holding out a one with their trophies.

A nail biting sequence of action took place at the Reedley Little League championship game at Camacho Park held on June 1st. The match was in between the Giants and Orioles.

On June 1st, the Orioles beat the Giants, making the Orioles an undefeated team with a final season record of 21-0-0. In the first inning of the night, top of the first, the Orioles scored one run by Braden Ortiz, Roman O. and Julian O. each with a walk, and Scott D. and Dominik Rubalcaba both struck out. Transitioning to the bottom of the 1st inning, Giants scored one run by Luke Gonzalez, Elijah Garay and Austin Rodriguez struck out, Liam Masaoka out on first base, RJ Ruiz with a double and Keizo Arakawa with a triple.


Following on to the next inning, Orioles scored one run by Ritchie Badilla, Jonah Silva with a double play with the first out, Ethan L. with the second out, and Braden Ortiz with the 3rd out on first base. On the bottom of the second inning, the Giants scored no runs, Luke Gonzalez, Elijah Garay, Rocky Garcia, and Ray Diaz each with a walk. Keizo Arakawa out on third base and Jacob Corpus out on first.


On the third inning, the Giants scored no runs. RJ ruiz out on first, followed on by two strikeouts by Liam Masaoka and Ryan Florentino. Going to the bottom of the third inning, the Orioles scored no runs either. Jayden R. with a walk, Roman Ocejo out by first base, and Scott D. with a strike out.


On the fourth inning, the Giants scored one run by Jacob Corpus. Luke Gonzalez with a walk, followed on by two strikeouts by Rocky Garcia and Nathan Olvera. Transitioning to the bottom of the fourth inning, the Orioles scored one run by Julian O., Julian O., Ethan L, and Jonah S. all with walks, Ritchie B. out on second and Braden Ortiz out on third base.


Going to the fifth inning, the Giants scored no runs. RJ ruiz with a single, Austin Rodriguez and Jacob Corpus both struck out. the Orioles then scored one run by Jayden R., Roman O. out by a sac fly, followed on with Scott D. with a flyout over to left field and Julian O. out by a double play.


Going in to the final inning of the night, as the game heats up to wrap up the night, the Giant scored 3 runs by Rocky Garcia, Elijah Garay and Keizo Arakawa. Ray Diaz struck out, Jacob Corpus with a fly out to the right field as Austin Rodriguez was hit by a pitch. Transitioning to the bottom of the final inning, the Orioles two runs by Dominik Rubalcaba and Ritchie Badilla. Jonah Silva and Ritchie Badilla both with a walk as Ethan L. struck out.

After a long awaited wrap of the game, the final score for the almost 2-and-a-half-hour match is Giants 5 - Orioles 6. The Orioles remained undefeated for the whole season.


During the awards ceremony, one of the Orioles players received a special award for earning the most home runs and was awarded to Roman Ocejo as he made 5 home runs this season.

The View: Orioles Team Mom

“As a team mom, it was fun and interesting organizing and communicating with the parents on the team.” Zugey Ornelas said. Ornelas is on her first year being a team mom for the Orioles. In her first year, she mentioned that she didn’t face any challenges, she find it very easy to work and communicate with the parents, she also said that everyone in the team was really easy to work with.

“These boys have worked so hard all year, and the one thing that got them to this point is their attitude.” Aside from the beating championship game on June 1st, Ornelas mentioned that it was a really good game to watch.


“I would like to see more kids playing out in the ballpark. It takes commitment and dedication but it can be done. Our boys had a great season and that was because it was a team effort with parents and coaches all working together, everyone showed good sportsmanship in practices and during the games. This season was a lot of fun.”
